Ranger 900 ELKA Stage 4 Suspension

Jumping off the deep end, it was time to satisfy a suspension urge I've had for some time. Ever since I put a set of stock-length Walker Evans Racing shocks on my Rhino 700, I knew how good aftermarket suspension can be, even with modest travel numbers.

In Polaris fashion my stock Sachs shocks were terrible. Brand new, they were ok. But I kid you not, they felt completely worn out by 1000 miles. I was bottoming out the front shocks on almost everything. The springs were sagging. It was pretty pathetic for a machine with 10" of travel.

I've wanted a set of Elka shocks for a long time. I jumped in head first and got a set of their Stage 4 shocks with preload, low speed compression, and rebound adjustment. I went directly through Elka. They wanted my weight, passenger's weight, tire size and brand, and any other kinds of specifics about my machine. Within two weeks, those packages I'd been waiting for arrived.

I eagerly installed the shocks. During the installation I noted the difference between the OEM Polaris Sachs shocks and the new Elkas.

Shocks are a simple installation. The rears have a remote reservoir, and Elka provided clams to mount the canisters. These new shocks don't leak oil, but the quality practically oozes from them. Undoubtedly, these beauties are the best built pieces attached to this Polaris.

I will update this post when I can run these shocks through the mill. As with any adjustable suspension, it takes a bit of fine tuning to really make it yours.
