MPI’s Mitsubishi turbocharger uses only 5 psi of boost to bump horsepower by 41, or 26.45 percent, with the standard 11.3:1 compression. A Donaldson airbox and filter replaces the OEM dual-filter setup, and the MPI intercooler rides under the bed and draws air via a fan. It’s a really clean install.

Yamaha re-tuned its SRViper snowmobile engine for more torque in the pure-sport YXZ1000R. The snowmobile produces 135 horsepower, while the YXZ1000R makes 114 horsepower. MPI has been building Turbo kits for the Yamaha snowmobile for more than a decade, so the engine is capable of surviving 300-plus horsepower. MPI’s base kit for the YXZ is $3499.99, and it bumps output to 155 horsepower using only 5-psi boost and pump gasoline. It uses a Mitsubishi turbocharger and an industrial-quality USA intercooler. The kit is American made, including the smaller, lighter muffler, Donaldson air-filter system, electronic fuel controller, and boost and altitude compensator. It comes with all mounting hardware, heat shields and a bolt-on intercooler for the three 41mm OEM EFI throttle bodies. This $4000 kit is awaiting EPA-compliance certification, and, if the YXZ1000R had a CVT like the SRViper, MPI would already have CVT weight kits for it.

At press time, MPI is offering free shipping on the YXZ bolt on turbo kit.
