Is an air impact wrench nessessary to install your sheave?

    James -
I watcher your install video today and I feel I can do the sheave install and the wet clutch slug with the exception of not having an air impact wrench. On your video, the impact wrench looked like it might be required, depending on how tight the factory installed a couple of the nuts. Before I order the parts for the upgrades, do I need to get access to an air impact wrench? Is there another way to remove the nuts that required an air impact wrench on your video?

Sod Fa, You'll need an impact gun. If you don't have one check with a rental place. The clutch will want to spin otherwise.

the electric impacts are sweet. i use my air ones way less now. i have a 20v dewalt and it hammers hard. its supposed to be at like 480 ft lbs at max strength. but is a bit pricey if you aren't going to to use it a whole lot. a harbor freight job would probably be good for occasional use unless you just like having nice tools. lol

Porter Cable makes some nice electric tools for the money as does Milwaukee. The 18-20 volt impacts are strong enough for most home mechanics.

If you already have a drill using the same batteries you can get the impact only. I got my Dewalt for around $80 on amazon.

I blame Rob and James for making me need new tires & safety harnesses.

You can do it without an impact...Yamaha has a specific sheave holding tool ; but , for what you'd pay for the tool , you can buy an impact. I have had to wedge the primary with blocks of wood to keep it from turning a few times , even while using an impact .

Thanks guys! I'm lining up the right compressor and impact so I can do it right.
