    Front diff problem ?

Rhino started to slip or sounds like gears slipping on each other when a load is put to the front end in 4 wheel drive and with diff lock on. Front wheels spin under light load only, notice it plowing snow when pushing large amounts of it.
Any place I should start to look that would be the most easy fix, like a fail safe thing that would protect the diff itself.
I am no mechanic but love to learn this stuff.
Any help to get me in the right direction would be awesome.
    Thanks guys

Only with diff lock or does it do it in regular 4x4 mode?

Maybe slip joint in front driveshaft.

The ft. drive shaft does have a torque limiter built into it. Its near the center of the shaft. Check for looseness in it and the ft. and rear yoke. You may have to even pull against something to simulate a load while someone watches the shaft to see if its the yoke and shaft splines, limiter or ring and pinion. Hope this helps?

Can't do the load test thing as I already had the spindles off to change out lower ball joints, and free up calipers.
Got it all torn down, Front diff is sittin on bench.
All splines look great on fr and rear yokes, drive shaft ends and axle's.
The limiter looks great as well, looks like it is put together with maybe shear pins?
Did find about 1/8 or so of a turn of play in the engine side of tranny on drive shaft.
    Maybe normal?
Also if there was a 1/8 cup of oil in front diff that would take it all.
    Internal diff problem?
Any other suggestions would be awesome. Thanks

I would check and make sure the 4 wheel drive selector motor was getting you fully engaged with each function. IIRC 501.com was a place that had a good help section with maybe some videos. And they sell parts or service the units.

I don't know exactly how the torque limiter works ; but , are the yokes in "time" on the front shaft ? If one was at say 12 , and the other at 3 you would know it is slipping . Are you sure it is coming from the front ? When the rear shaft "yokes" fail , they make a noise you're describing .

Good info, already have drive shaft out and didn't take notice on how yokes were. So I should be upon reinstall of them ?
It is for sure the front, only in 4x4 and diff lock.
