I don't know what your budget is but the newer model trucks have better power and more gears in the auto trans. The 5.3 Chev and 5.0 Ford pull as well as my 5.7 Tundra and get better mpg. I think Ford or Dodge now has an 8 or 10 speed auto. I rode in Geterdun's Dodge, it shifts a lot :)

my Tundra is a 2009, gets about 12 mpg towing a 12 ft trailer with my wolverine on it running 70-75 in the mountains
