I took from that that there will be no foot clutch but no automatic mode - that you always have to shift sort of like a traditional semi-auto atv but with a computer controlled clutch (by some sort of servo I guess).

wikipedia article about the FJR1300 transmission:

    "Transmission

The FJR1300 uses a five-speed manual gearbox with close ratio gears. Final drive is via shaft, encased within the swingarm, which has monoshock suspension with remote quick-set two position adjustable pre-load.
The FJR1300AE/AS model features an electronic clutch, which Yamaha calls YCC-S. There is no clutch lever on this model.
Instead, the YCC-S system allows the rider to shift using a set of manually operated push buttons on the left handlebar or via the standard gear shift lever.
The electronic clutch is controlled by an internal computer, allowing gear shifts to complete in approximately 0.2 seconds. The gearbox pattern is also unconventional in that neutral is at the bottom end of the range, otherwise the gearbox is identical to the A model.
The ECU automatically controls the electronic clutch and ignition timing to ensure smooth gear shifting and will actuate the clutch at standstill. Stalling the engine is not normally possible."

    sounds like a tiptronic

In the main patent description, the transmission is described as "a manual transmission that changes gears in accordance with the operation performed by the occupant, but the transmission according to another preferred embodiment . . . is not limited to a manual transmission. For example, the transmission may be an automatic transmission that automatically changes gears . . . by a motor in accordance with the state of the vehicle, irrespective, of the intention of the driver. Alternatively, the transmission may be an automated manual . . . that changes gears . . . by a motor in accordance with an operation performed by the driver." See paragraph 0074 of the patent application, p 14 of 15, next to the last paragraph. http://images3.freshpatents.com/pdf/US20150224874A1.pdf

It goes on to say that these embodiments are examples of the invention and not limited by them. IMO, the entire patent application is seeking a patent for a sxs with a transmission separate from the engine such that the machine can be more narrow, with lower seats etc such that ground clearance can be increased without compromising (or even lowering) the COG. Then engine itself and transmission are secondary to that.

That being said, if you couple that with the CA CARB document, you know cc, hp and "M5" transmission, presumably that means "manual 5". And when you compare that with the 2016 honda 1000 CA CARB document, which list "A6" (automatic 6) in the transmission column, which we know honda calls an automatic but is a DCT tranmission, which I think of as a manual, I think the video above is essentially correct. http://i2.wp.com/www.hondaprokevin.c...v-sxs1000-.jpg
