Double T Mudbusters
I have tore into my primary a few times but none made me more nervous than the X sheave with the shim. I took 3 stabs at it then decided to get a wrench handy so when i had it all like i wanted with my thumb on camplate i tightened with wrench after finger tight.

I need to see this. All I am doing is adding a JBS shim and changing the oil this weekend, but don't want to mess something up.

Diy
I second the notion of not letting the dealer work on your machine!!! the Yamaha mechanics here in Hot Springs, AR are a JOKE. I took my Viking to get the radio installed and they didn't even tighten the bolts down on the roof, luckily I found them scattered around the floor of the trailer. There is no way I would let them touch anything important. Plus I'm the kind of guy that likes to know how and why stuff works. My shop is always open so I'm not at the mercy of someone else's schedule. Always DIY!!! The experience is worth it's weight in gold.

Well when you think about it, Yamaha mechanics install round roller weights that are hard to flop, unless they have experience with OD weights and JBS sheaves how would they know to look out for weight flopping due to camplate lack of pressure. Cheers

Thanks Rob, I will. I was just concerned with your prior warning and then this thread about the weights moving. I will just keep pressure on it with one hand while I put on the shim with the other. I need to dig out my little torque wrench and caliper (for the belt).

Where are you putting the shim ??? It goes between the fixed and the collar...you shouldn't be concerned with it when putting the primary on !
