Simply because Yamaha has nothing that can compare. Can Am does and they are stealing some business. Honda is getting very close...
I had a Rhino and couldn't break that thing. Lord knows I tried. But it was just too skinny and the center of gravity was too high. It was like driving an ice skate. I was on my side more than the tires. I still loved it.
Drove a friends RZR S and went out the next day and bought one. Haven't drove a Yamaha yet that checks all the boxes for me. Now keep in in mind this was during the time Yamaha was getting sued by everybody so they just fell off the earth with development on the SXS market.
I would say the Wolverine is getting better but still not there for me.
I keep waiting on Yamaha to bring out the right machine for me so I can get rid of my RZR, but I've been very underwhelmed by their releases. Before you say anything about the YXZ it doesn't fit the bill for a trail machine.
I love Yamaha, I really do. I'm patiently waiting... Are they listening?
BTW neither myself or the people I ride with have had any of the problems mentioned. We have however seen a Can Am fall apart in front of our eyes.

and I still say this is the reason for Yamaha's speed restrictions

Wow, thats nuts. it's got to be a QC issue on the line.....someone not securing the wiring harness properly causing it to loosen and come in contact with either the exhaust or the engine.....either way...I hope Polaris helps this guy out.

Polaris already paid a $27.25 million lawsuit this year.

That is insane. They need to address this before they lose a ton of customers.

They make so many models with so many accessories and big aftermarket, only Can Am comes close, so they continue to sell no matter what.

around my neck of the woods (Northeast Wisconsin) Polaris is all over, I know quite a few people that own one, and listen and see first hand all the issues they have, over and over again....its almst sickening, like people wont even look at other brands.
People ask why would I get a Yamaha and not a Polaris? Pretty simple, My dad had a Rhino, and that sold me...the clutching alone is enough to stay away from a Polaris. Let alone the build quality......oh, but they are fast! and also start on fire.......... Love my RSpec, I can get in plenty of trouble at 60mph, let alone get there pretty quick.

I do love the Yamaha cvt, especially since I know a guy who is a master at improving it!

Lol. A friend of mine has a couple of Rhino's and I have seen the problems he has had and that alone is enough for me to stay away from Yamaha.
See, that goes both ways. But honestly, things change and I wouldn't let problems with a vehicle built 10 years ago have a large influence on what I would buy now.
I read about all the problems with all the different brands.
I also have my personal experiences with different brands.
I have a more neutral feeling of the actual differences in reliability of all the brands because of that.
They all have their problems.
