X2/X4 Clutch Info
I was doing some reading over on the other forums and saw that MassiveOverKill did a fairly decent post about performing a service on his clutches. I found it interesting that the secondary spring/nut is as big as it is and that he had some trouble with his sleeve on the secondary getting scored by the pins.
I am always trying to keep up on maintenance and make sure that my stuff is as bullet proof as possible, so seeing this has me a little concerned with my new machine. I always just used a stock wheel to compress the secondary spring. I already had a socket that worked on the old sheaves, but he shows that the nut is much bigger.
I am also the guy that all of my buddies use to work on their machines, so I try to have all of the special tools required instead of finding a redneck way to do it.
So...what are the thoughts on the new machines clutching? I know that we haven't gotten slug kits yet, but feel that they are needed, so have to wait on that. I am guessing that Secondary Springs will be coming soon and know that JBS has a good set-up for the primary sheave. Am I going to have to look for some other options for tools? Thinking the secondary spring compressor and some type of big wrench to work the nut...
Anything else that is in the works or that I need to think about with the maintenance and upgrades to these clutches?
Thanks

James can get you sorted on this when he sees this post. I wouldn't listen to any mechanical advice from that forum.

I try to be fairly open minded with the posts, and know that the internet is full of half-truths. But my personal experience with James and JBS has been nothing but positive. The whole idea of this post was to see what James will weight in and put out.
To me I found it interesting the differences between the old machines and the new. And how much more beefy the secondary spring is on the new ones. I was planning to tear into the secondary when I get my primary, so seeing this at this timing has me concerned that I won't be able to do what I normally do because of needing some different tools. And if I need different tools, I want to have them (and James' recommendation of where to find them) before I jump into the project.
