I kinda "looked" into that a few years ago . Hypoid oil was designed for gearboxes and diffs that are under extreme pressure . From what I've read , other than full sythetic , most 75-140w are acceptable to use .

IIRC I believe there is some difference too in GL4 and GL5 about additives that are put in for shear values or something concerning types of metal in the box. Primarily it has to do with synchronizers or brass bearings maybe. GL4 is probably what's specied and it's getting harder to find cause I believe places have GL5 thinking it is superior cause its a higher number.
