Don't trust the WD40 for anything rather than to liquify the dirt/gunk and get an initial short lube. When I had my fan out I used a short rubber hose and a pump oil can and got a few good squirts of 10W40 in the bearing, which is what got it spinning well. I do not know if the bearing is a ball or a self-lubing Babbitt type bushing, but betting on a bushing. If so from my experience the bushing will not last very long less you get some oil in there and if the WD40 washed the grease out of a ball bearing then the oil will be important to save the bearing races. The OEM breather hose seemed like it was too small to let the oil rundown it since it would airlock. So If you don't want to pull the fan, if it was me, the minimum I would do would be to use some light viscosity oil like, 3 in ONE , to run into the breather tube. You probably know that hose has probably got a sag in it and it will work best to take it out at the top part of radiator and hold it straight up and use a syringe to lightly push oil in.
If you in Nashville this week give me a call and you can take my OEM oiled fan with you as a backup.

If it runs 15 seconds for every mile then that is 50 minutes, would not worry about it. It will be a little of a test to see where it is at when you get back.

just as a point of interest....when I oiled mine, it not only got quiet but it also sped up significantly increasing the airflow. So it is not just if the fan will fail, but the loss of cooling as it starts to die.

Thanks for all the input guys. Gonna get some oil in the tube. I will let you know how it is after the 3-4 days of riding at RRB. I also clean the radiator every day with a radiator genie.
